Humans Of New York

Humans Of New York dispels the single story by going beyond what people think of a person and showing there true story.

When I first saw the photo I immediately thought of a athlete that had suffered and injury and could no longer play.

So I began to read his story. He was an active duty medic that had just returned from Afghanistan. He went into detail on how he had saved this girl's life after she stepped on a land mine. He said "But I’m trained to drown it out. I’m trained so well that I almost don’t hear the screaming." But when he returned he thought his family would be there to see as he got off the plane, but no one was. He said nothing is like it was when I left.

His story shows the insight of who he really is. It goes to show that not every African American man is an athlete. They all have their story's.

  1. I thought it was very interesting on how he chose to become a medic in Afganistan. I'm curious on what happened to his family, do you know why his family wasn't there?

  2. It shows a lot can change over a short period of time and that people can actually want to help others.

  3. It's kind of sad how family didn't come to see him.

  4. I find it really weird that his family didn't show up to greet him when he got off the plane. But the way you wrote this was really good.
